The LLAMA/NMRT New Leaders Discussion Group is an exciting new joint venture between LLAMA and NMRT. This newly created discussion group is designed to provide opportunities for discussion and networking among new librarians, new members of LLAMA and/or NMRT, librarians who are making career shifts, experienced leaders, and anyone interested in developing leadership skills.
We are excited to have lined up three presentations (eight minutes each) for the first part of the program:
1. “How to Be a Library Leader Even If You’re in School or Underemployed” – Megan Hodge, Circulation Supervisor, Randolph-Macon College.
2. “Developing Leadership Skills in Difficult Economic Times: From Leadership Student to Staff to Librarian” – Rachel Besara, Assessment Librarian, Florida State Univeristy.
3. “Getting Past ‘We’ve Always Done it This Way’: Dealing with Tradition and Transition when Developing New Leaders for Today’s Libraries” – Mary Nino, Associate Dean, San Jose State University Library, and Bernd Becker, Senior Assistant Librarian, San Jose State University Library.
After the presentations, we will break into rotating discussion groups for the remaining hour to maximize networking and discussion opportunities. The presenters will be facilitators for some of the discussions.
The New Leaders Discussion Group is intended to be informal in nature, and attendees are encouraged to share their thoughts and experience, offer advice, and network during the discussion phase of the program.
