Seizing Opportunities to Serve: Professional Involvement, Local to National
Are you just getting started in librarianship? Are you looking for ways to volunteer for your local, state, regional or national organizations? Do you want to serve on a committee, act as a reviewer, or run for an office, and you don’t know where or how to get started?
Well, you’ve taken your first step…by joining ALA! Whether you are new to librarianship or a not so new librarian looking for ways to become more involved and make an impact in the profession, this session is for you!
Come hear from librarians in a variety of libraries, at different stages in their career discuss their involvement in professional organizations. Our panel will provide tips and techniques on how to be an effective volunteer, and why service work is valuable to you and librarianship at large!
The panel includes
- Jade Alburo, Librarian for Southeast Asia, Oceania, Anthropology, and Religion at UCLA
- Nancy Faget, a federal librarian in Washington DC
- Rhonda Puntney, youth services and special needs consultant at Lakeshores Library System in Waterford, Wisconsin
- Jenica P. Rogers, Director of Libraries at the State University of New York at Potsdam.
Come hear what they have to say about the effect of service work on you and your career!
